Monica sat down for an one-on-one interview with Honey Magazine to discuss her breakup with Rocko, the chemistry she has with Chad Ochocinco, women having a list when it comes to finding a man & Tiny’s upcoming wedding to TIP.
I love Monica & she always keeps it 100% real in her interviews.
Check out a few experts below:
You recently shared that you will be a bridesmaid in Tiny and T.I.’s wedding. Is Tiny a bff of yours?
Bff is almost just somebody you hang out with for the moment. We are long-term friends. We’ll be friends until we are old and gray in rocking chairs. My mother started letting me go places with her when I was only 12 or 13 years old. And her mom lives around the corner from mine. So our friendship is far beyond taking a couple paparazzi pictures and using the bff terminology. We’ve been good friends for a very long time.
A lot of people are surprised that T.I and Tiny have been together so long. Are they a perfect fit for each other?
I think she’s the perfect person for T.I.P. because he’s going to need somebody that is supportive. Somebody that will not turn their back regardless if he’s still the hottest rapper ever or if he just wants to be Clifford Harris at home with the kids. I think people get too caught up on the superficial things and all this other stuff and they don’t see the person. I think she is one of the absolute best people that you will ever meet.
What kind of friend is Tiny?
The best way to describe her is real no matter what the circumstances are. [That’s] one thing that Tameka and I share in common—she never changes. And she just has this way of showing you unconditional love no matter what’s taking place. When you’re down and out, when you’ve done something wrong, she won’t condemn you or judge you. She’ll just be there for you. And she’s not afraid to stick her neck out on the line for a friend or a love one.
The video for “Everything To Me” also starred Chad Ochocinco. What made you choose him for the video?
There is this agency called Tough Love. They were working with him already. And they were saying he reminds me of you because he treats people a certain way. He never acts like he’s better than anyone else. And they were absolutely right. When he came on set he spoke to everybody on set down to the cameraman.
Did you enjoy working with him?
Its hard to go from not knowing someone, shaking hands saying nice to meet you to pretending to be married. It was a really good experience.
You two had so much chemistry. Is there anything going on between you?
He’s out on the circuit and I’m just not ready to date yet. He actually has a reality show where he’s trying to find love. We are not dating. I’m not ready. I can’t imagine a movie, date or dinner. I just can’t see it.
That is understandable. You recently broke up with your fiancé of ten years. Do you think you will date again?
When you spend almost a decade with one person its kind of hard to get your heart back opened up that particular way. But maybe when that time comes, I don’t know who the person would be that I would date at that time. But I’m not against any type of person or profession.
There are a number of dating shows out now. A lot of women have a list of requirements when it comes to men. Do you?
I’m not going to put any stipulations on how or what they should be like. I think that’s just wrong. Women with all these lists and requirements are going to probably end up by themselves for a long time. And I don’t want to do that because I want to get married and have more children one day. So whoever God sends I’m open to it.
How is your current relationship with your former fiancé Rodney “Rocko” Hill?
For years we were together. And we have a great friendship now. People sometimes assume that when you decide not to be in a relationship anymore you have to have all these weird frustrating moments and negative energy amongst the two. We are not like that because we purposely had our children. They were conceived in love and they are not going to be brought up in anything besides that as well. Its shocking for people to hear how close we are as friends now.
Breaking up after a ten year engagement had to be difficult. How did you get through it?
Me, I’m a Christian I pray a whole lot. I pray in a peaceful quiet environment. And I ask God to just take over those things that I don’t understand and to guide me in the direction that he’d have me go because I know my steps have already been ordered. That’s what the thirty-year-old Monica does. And I’m just learning to be at peace with myself I have to be at peace with whom I believe in and that’s Christ. And it just helps me along my way. I pray sometimes seven or eight times a day. Before I go on stage, before I went into the record company I just closed my eyes outside of the building and I just say my prayers. And sometimes I just say thank you. Thank you for the things that you have given me.
What is your advice to women going through something similar?
Long relationships are harder because we are really family members. You know Rodney is a member of family and we have children. So it is very hard to just walk a way and not feel all these different emotions and they change day to day. The one thing that I think you have to do is give things time. It takes time to heal for one. And its necessary for both parties to forgive anything that took place in a relationship so that you can have a good friendship. It’s also important t be as mature as possible. And if you stay in that frame of mind it allows you to not be as bitter and as angry whenever something takes place. It really irritates me when I see people who have been in relationships for years and when they decide that it’s no longer working for them all of a sudden they hate each other. How is that even possible?
