VH1′s hit show “Single Ladies” was recently picked up for a second season and the star of the show LisaRaye McCoy is back in full swing covering July/August 2011 Summer Romance issue of Kontrol Magazine.

In a recent interview with the urban daily actress LisaRaye McCoy opened up about her role on VH1′s new sitcom “Single Ladies,” as well as being thick in Hollywood.

She also gave her opinion on if women should marry for love or money.

Your character Keisha is a former video model. How much did you draw from your own personal experiences in creating the character?

Just like Keisha, I started my career modeling in my hometown of Chicago and graduated to doing music videos in Los Angeles. Back then you did videos in the hope that the director would eventually direct films. So you would try to get those auditions with them. It was definitely a grind and a hustle, but then I made it into movies and doing a sitcom. Now I’m back doing a scripted series, and I also have a reality show “The Real McCoy” on TV One.

As close as Keisha is to myself, I actually identify with the other two characters (Val and April). Keisha is looking for love, but there’s this wall she’s put up. I’m looking for love but unlike Keisha, I’m a little too old to play those games.

Speaking of playing games, your character and Malcolm (D.B. Woodside) are engaged in an intense power play. In the first episode, Keisha finally gave in and slept with Malcolm, but then he didn’t call her back. Have you ever experienced that?

Absolutely. I’ve experienced that a couple of times. You think everything is going well, then something changes and you don’t know what the hell is going on. It makes you analyze yourself and ask “Did I do something wrong?” It makes you second guess yourself, which isn’t healthy.

What’s your cut off time? How long do you wait for a guy to call back before you give him his walking papers?

One week!!!!! There’s nothing going in your life that bad that you can’t pick up the phone. To me, that’s called respect and consideration—if you don’t have those two things, then we have nothing in common. I’ll just send you a thank you card for letting me know who you are so I won’t waste my time.

In Hollywood, there seems to be an unwritten law that actresses have to be extremely thin in order to succeed in the business. How have you been able to resist the temptation to conform, and foster positive body images for both yourself and your daughter Kai?

You have to use your own discretion on how you want to look. We look in the magazines and in the movies and women look like a size zero. In the two-hour premiere of “Single Ladies” I was thicker. I actually like being thicker, especially in the summertime when I’m not working. Women like myself, Beyonce and J-Lo are known for having a nice backside– a curvaceous body shows that we’re not afraid of looking womanly. The more we embrace ourselves, the better people can relate to us because they look like us and want to see more of that. My daughter is a size 12 and I enjoy that she embraces her own beauty. We’re not all meant to be the same. Stacey Dash is a size 2, I’m a size 6-7 and I may go up to a size 8, who knows? When we see a variety of body sizes on TV that’s letting the audience know that it’s o.k.

In a recent interview with VH1 to promote her new upcoming show, Single Ladies, LisaRaye sat down for a one-on-one interview with Janell Snowden.

During the interview LisaRaye talked about her “business arranged” marriage to her ex husband Michael Misick, saying they both agreed to date each other during their marriage and try to fall in love (rather than having love from the beginning).

She also went on to call her ex husband a “ho” & talked about why she never confronted Rocsi (from 106th and Park) about the alleged affair she was having with her husband while they were married.

The former First Lady of Turks and Caicos, LisaRaye McCoy recently spoke with HoneyMag.com to promote her new reality show “The Real McCoy” which debuted last night on TV One. She also talked about her ex-husband affair with Rosci (106 & Park) as well as her Black Men Magazine photo shoot….

You signed a prenuptial agreement. What seems to be the hold up with your settlement?

We are still going through that now. This man has lost his position, his lifestyle, family, and his government legacy. That is a lot. He’s facing not only an investigation, but also charges. And not just from the governmental standpoint, but he also had charges for rape. That’s a lot for one man to take on. And he loses his wife. I get that there are some other priorities in his life. My thing is that I’m waving my flag over here going okay so we agreed that we are no longer interested in being together. So let’s be fair with each other.

What would be fair? Do you feel he owes you something?

I took my money over there to do business deals. And so now that my money is filtered with his—there was money that was not given back to me. Now that I’m in the middle of everything that [he] created for [himself], ultimately what he created for us because I’m his wife. It’s not fair. Let me have mine. Give me mine and let me go back to doing what I do. That’s where my anger came from. I’m not really interested in what I can get out of his riches. I’m interested in mine.

Many people feel that you married him for the money. Are you a gold-digger?

The perception that they have of me — I could give less than a damn about. I say this to them. I dug for gold in high school. I’m a platinum girl now. I’m an international person. I don’t even like taking out the trash. I don’t dig for anything. I don’t have a garden either. Every relationship that you embark on is some kind of business relationship.

You got to look at it that way. You got to protect yourself, not just from the man next door, or Uncle Sam, or the IRS, you got to protect yourself from anyone you’re in business with. So you better look for someone that’s going somewhere who’s trying to take you with them. Money attracts money. Power attracts power. You ain’t got to tell the white girls that. Look at Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She stepped from Kennedy to Onassis. Do you think she stepped from Kennedy to Burger King man? No.

Were you ever in love with your ex-husband? Were there good times?

When I met Michael on our very first date, I was taken with him. I was totally smitten. I was totally like this man has a wonderful spirit. I felt a connection. I did not even know he was the president of that country. It was not until after our 18-hour date in Turks and Caicos, when he was taking me back to the airport the next day that we were holding hands. And I looked up at the wall and saw a big picture of him.

I looked at the wall and I looked at him, and I said I’m with the president of this country. So I didn’t have this connection with him falsely thinking, oh this man is rich, or this man is powerful. There was something about that man that made me commit before I knew any of that. We dated after that for a month. After a month, he asked me to marry him. When I tell you that he introduced me into a world and a life and a country that I am so very appreciative of him for.

How did it go wrong?

He had a child within our marriage with the same baby’s mother that he had his first child with, which I did know about. When a woman feels something is going on we go into that investigative mode. And when I did that, I got all of my ducks in a row and I brought it to him and said what is this all about? He explained it to me. I said to myself, ‘Is this worth me breaking up my new marriage for?’ It was deceitful but it wasn’t worth me breaking up my marriage at the time. But I had to think if I trusted him. Trust is a building process. So while we are trying to build the trust, so many things were happening with affairs and the corruption of governmental funds and then the Rocsi thing.

Were you shocked when you found out about Rocsi and your husband?

I’m never shocked, girl. I don’t put anything past anyone. I was very disappointed in the way it was handled. Because to me, if you’re going to do whatever you’re going to do… respect your [and my] home. Do that over there, not here. And the way it was done so publicly with people calling me saying, ‘Hey, you know I’ve seen pictures on the Internet in your backyard? And I see that she flew in and you flew out.’ I didn’t know that she knew my husband.

Have you seen her since?

Have you heard that I’ve seen her? You will hear about it. I’m sure that you will

You were recently featured in a racy cover shoot in Black Men Magazine. Was the shoot your idea?

I’m so upset about that because let me tell you they were not supposed to use that picture. I was sick on that photo shoot. It was 23 degrees out there in that dessert. I didn’t feel pretty. I didn’t feel sexy. I was just like let me try to pull this off. In the midst of that you get a couple pictures that [are] not appropriate.

You should have enough tastefulness and integrity about yourself as a photographer and as a publisher [to say], ‘we are not going to use this shot because she was getting in to position. ‘We are not going to use this shot where her nipple is showing because that is not appropriate. We are not going to use this butt shot because she’s an older woman, she’s a mother, and she’s not Diamond. And that’s exactly what it was.

If you look at my facial expression on the cover, it’s almost if I’m going “huh?” I was in the middle of fixing my hair. I’ve been there done that. It took me right back to my video vixen Diamond days, which is not fair to me. It’s not fair to a former first lady and it’s not fair to a single mother who’s an older woman now

What were your intentions with the shoot?

I was supposed to be teasing my male fan base and letting those forty year old women know that hey we can keep it together. We can be fine and fabulous at 42. And telling the twenty year olds to watch out honey cause the forties are the new twenties. That’s what it was supposed to be. He ruined that for me.|Read More

“My whole life has been a fairytale. Every man that I have ever dated has always been powerful, had money and been generous to me. He (her ex-husband) was just the next in line. It was like this is how I am supposed to treated. My father was my first introduction to power. I am attracted to power. So when people always ask me why you always date a man with money, why in the hell wouldn’t I?

I have my own lifestyle, it’s like, I’m not going for less than what I have. If I can’t be spoiled because he is not that generous, loving and caring, I don’t want you. Go to the next one. I can wait. I don’t know what it is not to be pampered and spoiled. I don’t even want to try it. That’s like saying to me, I’ma be broke. What do you mean? What? No. That don’t work for me. That’s not an option for me. I’ve never been that.”

On her fallout with Star Jones and Vivica Fox

Star had my damn back. She is a friend, a confidante and the bitch is smart. I never realized it was a problem until I looked up on day and realized I hadn’t spoken to her in so long that I was like, ‘Damn, where is she?’ Then I started hearing about the little shit that Vivica was saying–that I f*cked it up for all of us–I guess black women, or whatever–and I am thinking, why wouldn’t she say these things to me? I said, ‘Well, tell her to use her own influence to get what the f*ck she wants to get!” Never did I think that anything that I was going through would affect you and your career so much. Sorry.” *Kanye shrug*

I have reached out to both of them and asked what happened and what is their definition of a friendship. Where are they? I know a New York Daily News article came out saying that my new reality show was about revenge and airing out our dirty laundry, but I’m too grown for all of that. I would never tell any of my friends’ business, even if we aren’t friends anymore. There is no interest for me in that.”

On Rosci( From 106 & Park) relationship with her ex husband:

I looked up on the Internet and saw pictures of Rocsi in my backyard. I have never invited her to my house and I didn’t know she knew my husband like that.

On her feelings towards her ex husband:

“I don’t feel bad about any of it. I was the famous face attached to Turks & Caicos that made [the marriage] what it was. That has helped his country. I believe that he cared about his country and he was a great leader for them. He brought a lot of money to that country and a lot of awareness. We both did. I am proud of that, very proud. Now, did he want his legacy to end his way? No! But I would get married again because I am a fan of love, I am a fan of a partnership, and it is much easier to fight this thing called life with someone by your side.”

On her new reality show:

I am excited about the show, and I wasn’t at first, but now I am. The show is about me, a celebrity transitioning from being the first lady of a country she knew very little about, and that fairytale-turned-nightmare. It’s about me returning to Hollywood to pursue my career. The drama of all the rumors I’ve had to face involving what really happened in Turks & Caicos. It allows my fans to support me and my haters to hate me more

According to law enforcements a 24 year old woman was found dead, Ingrid Rivera (the victim)  wearing only her undergarments on the roof of New York’s Spotlight club where Lil Kim held her birthday party.  The family of Rivera reported her missing the day after the party when she didn’t come home.  Lil Kim released a statement saying she knew nothing about the murder that took place, Kim also said she left the club without seeing a thing.  Media is so quick to put the attention on a celebrity instead of where it should be. My thing is where were the people she came to the club with?  I heard one story saying the victim was drunk and was put out of the club by security but my questions is who was she at the club with and why would they let her leave the club drunk by herself?    Ladies know who you going out with, if you go out with a bunch of girls make sure they’re going to have your back if some ish jump off.  If something happens somebody in the group should know what went down.   A lot of times I go to the club by myself but if I’m at the club by myself I’m not drinking, I’m valet parking, and I’m watching my surroundings extra hard.  And if I’m with my girls I know we have each others back I know if we come to the club together we’re leaving together, even if we’re driving separate cars well walk to one car and drive to the next.  It’s too many crazy people out here and too much crazy stuff happening in this world and if you go out in a group make sure the people you roll with is looking out for each other and will have ya back if something goes down.    I’m not trying to say that the people this girl came to the club with didn’t have her back, what I’m saying is as ladies we just need to watch our surroundings more and watch who we go out with.My condolences go out to the family of Ingrid Rivera.
